Staging your House when you really don't want to
or, as I call it- Staging Lite, some simple ways to make any house look better when it's for sale

  1. Open up the curtains/shades/blinds, and let the sunshine in! Buyers may close everything up again after they buy, but light sells houses! Put up lighter window coverings if you need to hide an unattractive view, so at least the light comes in. And don't forget to clean those windows.

  2. Consider re-arranging your furniture for "looks". Most of us arrange, to some extent, for convenience. You can live with a less convenient arrangement while your home is "on the market", can't you, if it gets you a quicker sale/better price? If you followed #2 on the last page you have already removed some of the furniture. Try to see your things with new eyes, and imagine how it looks to a Buyer.

  3. Put some potted plants/flowers at various spots in your house. They really add a nice touch of attractive color. Keep them watered and trimmed, though. Dead plants are worse than no plants. A bowl of lemons, oranges, or apples is nice, too.

  4. Put out some new, colorful towels in the bathrooms. Put a fresh bar of good-smelling soap on the sink or tub/shower. Put your half-used bottles of shampoo and conditioner under the sink after you shower. Make sure dishes and food are put away in the kitchen.

  5. Organize your closets, and consider storing things elsewhere if the closets are very crowded. The same goes for a pantry. Yes, Buyers WILL look, because they want to see how much space is there. Fewer things will make the space appear larger.

Again, it's not really anything you don't already know. It's just making yourself do it. Think how smug you will feel when your house sells twice as fast as average!
